I haven’t done much painting or sculpting since Christmas. But I decided to get back to the workbench and complete a few projects. Spring is so rainy and cold this year, it is a perfect time for model building 🙂
In this post, you will find photos of my (now) completed sci-fi crates.
Completing this project was quite quick:
it took an evening to cut small pieces of massonite, glue crates and various scrap pieces to simulate random “junk”, and prime the whole thing in black.
The next day, I painted some details and added decals (about 3Â hours of work).
And this morning, I completed the weathering by doing a dark brown wash, followed by a dry-brushing of pale grey to pick up the details. I added some rust by “stippling” different shades of browns and orange. Finally, the pieces were coated with 2 coats of mat varnish to protect them.
Here are some close-ups. Enjoy!
That’s some great sci-fi scenery. If it’s cool with you, I might borrow some of the design ideas, especially the processor…antenna…chimney…thing.
Thak you. Go ahead: if the stuff inspires you, great! I had a lot of fun doing these. They’re versatile enough to be useful in many scenarios. Feel free to ask questions if you want. Have fun!
I’m already gathering the bits and pieces. Cheers!
